The Mitate World – Reminisce
Exhibition Branding
Can a simple shift in viewpoint bridge the gap between functional reality and imaginative discovery?
Reminisce is an exhibition concept celebrating the work of miniature photographer Tatsuya Tanaka through the art of mitate. By using visual puns to reinterpret familiar objects, the exhibition invites viewers to step out of their routines and explore new perspectives.
The title reflects this shift in viewpoint while subtly referencing the "miniature" scale of the work, demonstrating how design can bridge the gap between reality and imagination.
Tools: Photoshop, Figma
Problem
Desensitization: The repetitive nature of daily life often leads us to view familiar objects solely in terms of their functional roles, overlooking their creative potential.
Stagnant Perspective: Conventional viewpoints limit our ability to explore new perspectives. I identified a need for a branding system that prompts a shift in gaze.
Solution
Conceptual Identity: I designed a visual identity for Tatsuya Tanaka’s exhibition that mirrors his mitate philosophy, using layout and typography to spark curiosity.
Integrated Experience: I developed a cohesive system that functions as the first point of contact, inviting guests to re-examine the mundane.

Digital Extension: Reminisce App
To complement the physical exhibition, I designed a dedicated mobile application that optimizes the visitor journey for the smartphone era. The app functions as a digital companion, streamlining every touchpoint from entry to post-exhibition engagement, ensuring a more seamless and accessible experience.
Key Features
Integrated Ticketing: Consolidates exhibition information, ticket purchasing, and digital storage into one interface to minimize wait times and entry friction.
Digital Archive & Gallery: Provides an on-demand look at the artwork and the philosophy behind mitate, allowing visitors to revisit the creative concepts anytime.
Merchandise Management: Includes a built-in gift shop for easy browsing and purchasing of goods, extending the exhibition experience beyond the gallery walls.
