Aloha Bash

Event Branding

How do we create a unified identity that allows the distinct voices of multiple artists to coexist?

Aloha Bash is one of the largest end-of-semester events at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. As the lead designer, I was tasked with creating a unified visual language for the festival while integrating the distinct identities of two performing artists.

The challenge lay in honoring their specific brand requirements, including requested imagery and logos, while maintaining a consistent aesthetic across all promotional platforms.

Tools: Photoshop, Print Production

Problem

Harmonizing Identities: I had to balance the overall event theme with the established visual brands of two different artists. It was crucial to ensure that their individual styles were not lost while still adhering to a single, cohesive branding system that incorporated their specific photo and logo requests.

Production Constraints: All promotional materials, ranging from small yard signs to XL banners, had to be printed and produced within a limited campus workspace with restricted equipment. Maintaining high-quality output while managing the logistical challenges of large-scale physical production was a constraint.

Solution

Flexible Visual Framework: I developed a graphic system that acted as a versatile stage for the artists' assets. By using consistent typography and color accents across all formats, I created a unified look that allowed the artists’ personas to stand out without fragmenting the event’s identity.

Technical Oversight & Production: I oversaw the entire production cycle, optimizing design files for various scales and materials. By managing the hands-on printing process, I ensured that all environmental graphics met professional standards despite the limited production environment.
